Coral Reefs in trouble

Many corals have died in the recent years because of pollution and fishing. Many fishing nets have destroyed corals. A lot of corals have bleached in the last several years and the reason is unknown. It may be because of warm water caused by El Nino or pollution. It is hard for corals to recover after it bleaches. 10% of the worlds corals are already dead. 30% of corals are endangered.

Location

Coral Reefs can be found in many hot locations such as Red Sea, Caribbean, Southeast Asia, India, ect. They are found through 30 degrees north and south latitude but most are located in 4 degrees north and south latitude.

What corals are made from
|
|
A coral reef is made of calcium carbonate, or limestone, given from the water by the reef organisms: colonies of coral polyps and coralline algae. Most of this structure, the underlying foundation of the reef, is dead, made up of layer upon layer of coral skeletons.
